We are pleased to announce that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be introduced to the connecX portal and app. This security enhancement requires users to provide two or more verification methods when accessing their accounts, offering an extra layer of protection against unauthorised access.

Why introduce MFA?

  • Enhanced Security: Passwords can be compromised through phishing or brute force attacks. MFA adds an additional verification step, significantly reducing the likelihood of unauthorised access.
  • Protection Against Account Takeover: Even if a password is stolen, MFA requires a second factor for access, minimising the risk of account takeovers.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Many regions and industries require strong authentication measures to safeguard sensitive data. Implementing MFA helps connecX meet these regulatory standards.

What to Expect

Starting from 21 August, all users—new and existing—will need to verify their identity each time they log into the connecX portal or app.

All portal users will be logged out the evening of 21 August. On their next log they will be required to complete the verification process and select a method of authentication.

connecX will then log users out of the app between Thursday, 22 August, and Wednesday, 11 September. We will start with Android users, followed by iOS users, and lastly white label app users. We are doing this because some user may never log out of their account, which run the risk of never verifying or authentication themselves.

Changes to the Login Process:
This new verification step is mandatory and alters how users log in or activate their accounts for the first time. Please refer to our support articles for detailed instructions:

Portal: Log in as a first time user
Portal: Log in as an existing user

App: Log in as first time user
App: Log in as an existing user
Forgotten Password

Important:

  • Your account will remain logged in each time you start the app, and you will not be required to complete the authentication process every time you start the app.
  • When you log out of the app and log back in, whether on the same device, a new device, or when switching accounts, you must complete the authentication process.
  • If automatic updates are not enabled on your device, you must manually update the app first.

Resident Communication

Residents have been sent an email notification of this latest MFA change. Building managers should also communicate these changes to ensure a smooth transition.
