Alexa Invocations

Alexa uses the concept of "Invocations" to trigger a specific voice app (skill) on your smart speaker.  An invocation is like the name of your skill.  Example invocations for the connecX platform include:

"Melrose Park"

"My Woniora"

"My Healey"

For all voice-related commands other than smart home, these invocations are needed to trigger the specific voice app.

All voice commands start with the wake-up word for the Alexa Smart Assistant.  The default wake up word is "Alexa" but can also be "Computer" or "Echo".  If you would like to use any of these, you will need to change this in the Settings on your Alexa app.  Out of the box, all Amazon voice speakers will respond to the wake word "Alexa"
